Versa K9 for Vets is a veteran-operated, not-for-profit organization based at El Reno’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The organization locates and trains service dogs free of charge for veterans, especially those who experienced combat.
Red Avery, the head of Versa, served in the Army and has since returned home to find a way to help fellow vets.
Tribal citizens and employees of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes gathered to witness the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the C&A Justice Center in Concho.
The ceremony included traditional drum songs and a ground blessing by language and culture director Gordon Yellowman.

A prayer service for Henry Haley will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6. Both services will be at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Cory Stanley officiating.
Burial will be in the Calumet Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Mr. Haley died June 28, 2023, in Oklahoma City.

It’s been 70 years since the executions of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg on charges of spying for the Soviet Union. It’s been 28 years since the public release of decrypted Soviet cables revealing that Julius Rosenberg was indeed guilty, and at least strongly implying that Ethel Rosenberg knowingly participated in his espionage work -- not just typing documents to hand over to his handlers, but even actively recruiting her own brother into the operation.
