Redlands Community College women’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak in NJCAA Region 2 play with an 86-61 home victory over Western Oklahoma State College.

A multi-game losing streak has kept Redlands Community College men’s basketball team hovering near the bottom of the NJCAA Region 2 standings. The Cougars dropped games to Eastern Oklahoma (84-68) and Western Oklahoma (93-81) to extend their losing streak to seven games.

Held to just a pair of extra base hits, Redlands Community College’s baseball team dropped three home games to Illinois-based Lewis and Clark Community College. Redlands slipped to 2-13 on the season after dropping the set by scores of 4-2, 9-7 and 24-12.

It took three tries and a split city council vote, but Cesar Salazar got the go-ahead last week to build a five-unit housing development at 1415 Gabriel St. Salazar first approached the city about the project in December.

El Reno Police Department placed ninth among Oklahoma City Metroplex law enforcement-related teams in the annual Polar Plunge fundraising challenge for Oklahoma Special Olympics. The eight-member team raised $3,246 - part of more than $34,500 collected by the top nine teams.

Early voting begins Thursday, Feb. 29 for voters in Canadian County. Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day have the option of voting early at their county election board. Canadian County Election Board Secretary Allen Arnold said early voting is open to all voters.

Sample ballots are now available for the March 5 election. Voters can download a sample ballot using the State Election Board OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or pick up a copy at the Canadian County Election Board during normal business hours.

“What’s crazy,” Jon Stewart noted in his Feb. 12 return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, “is thinking that we’re the ones as voters who must silence concerns and criticisms. It is the candidate’s job to assuage concerns, not the voter’s job not to mention them.”
