Letter to the Editor: Route 66 brings visitors to El Reno

Body

To the Editor:

When the story about the plan for the Route 66 archways came out in the Tribune, we had just had a couple from Portland, Ore., traveling Route 66 come by to tell us how much fun they were having going through Oklahoma. I had no idea Oklahoma had the most miles of Route 66 of all the states it runs through.

If I gave you a million dollars to invent a better mousetrap, and told you that if you succeeded you could keep any and all profits associated with the invention, you’d probably consider that a pretty good deal.

But if I gave your neighbor Bob a million dollars of YOUR money to invent that mousetrap, on the same conditions, you’d probably take issue with the idea.

Even if you were interested in investing in mousetrap innovation, you’d probably want a return on your investment.

To say that Brock and Wacey Snider are anxious to race in this weekend’s Smoke on the Water Drag Boat Races on Lake El Reno would be an understatement.

“We are super-excited. We’ve been looking forward to this race for a year,” said Brock.

The father and son duo from Mustang are no strangers to competitive power sports, be it on land, having traveled the United States with a pair of KTM motorcycles doing cross-country events.

Book rooted in El Reno draws praise

After reading the new book by Maurice Johnson,“Dragonfly Summers, A Dream Before Tomorrow,” this is what one reviewer had to say about it.

“A statement not made lightly: Maurice Johnson may be the most positive-minded person I know. And certainly one of the finest artists. Look for the genesis of the two and you come up with Maurice’s epic, Dragonfly Summers, A Dream Before Tomorrow. An aching, meaningful recounting of life that inspires us to do the same.”

That statement was made by Al Mertens, a screenwriter and director.

WASHINGTON – Skyrocketing inflation is costing Oklahomans thousands of dollars, according to the state’s junior senator.

U.S. Sen. James Lankford said Oklahoma families are paying more than $7,000 for the same products that they bought a year ago in the wake of the announcement that consumer prices rose to 9.1 percent in June, the highest since 1981.

From the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission

While commercial runways were nearly vacant during the early days of the pandemic of 2020-2021, staff from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission were knocking on the doors of high school superintendents and school counselors across Oklahoma’s 77 counties, asking if they could visit about an emerging aviation curriculum available to their students.
