Fresh Anointing Church, 1300 W. Watts, will host a Trunk or Treat festival at the church for Halloween. The event will be Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be candy and treats for kids in costume.

Oklahoma faces a shortage of nurses and engineers, but a state higher education leader says Oklahoma colleges are not necessarily enthusiastic about making changes that would reduce those reported shortages. Why? Because Oklahoma colleges don’t view those programs as money-makers.

“Young investors have a new strategy,” National Public Radio’s Tim Mak reported on Sept. 21: “Watching financial disclosures of sitting members of Congress for stock tips.” Under the Stock Act, members of Congress must disclose their own stock trades, and those of their spouses, within 45 days.

Virginia Catherine (“Kay”) Porta Bass died on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021. Born in Oklahoma City on June 11, 1940, Kay graduated from El Reno High School in 1958 and attended Monticello College and University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Funeral services for Corliss Jean (Allen) Collins will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, with Rev. Ray Griffin officiating.

Funeral services for Eugene Lee Irion will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at First Baptist Church of El Reno with Pastor Grant Findley officiating. Services are under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Bruce Lee Redbird will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Huber-Benson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Concho Cemetery. Bruce died Oct. 11, 2021, in Norman.

In a reversal of fortunes from a year ago, El Reno High School’s football teams travels to Ardmore Friday clinging to the fourth playoff spot from District 5A-1, while the Tigers remain tied at the top of the standings.

Four graduates of El Reno High School will be honored at the annual Distinguished Alumni Banquet. The event is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Roblyer Learning Center. The dinner will be catered by Marilyn Arnold and tickets are on sale for $20.
