OKLAHOMA CITY – Gov. Kevin Stitt this week signed a bill that will stop abortions from being performed once an unborn child is determined to have a detectable heartbeat.

Freezing temperatures that hit much of Oklahoma in mid-April may have wheat growers racing out to their fields to check on potential damage to their crop, but time is on the side of agricultural producers in this instance.

United Way of Canadian County met its 2020 fundraising goal, it was announced during a virtual Campaign Celebration event April 19. The campaign raised $193,316 to be invested on behalf of donors to help meet the community’s health and human service needs.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Gov. Kevin Stitt last week signed into law a bill that will allow for a victim-led restorative justice pilot program to be established in the state.

Lamplighters Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local church fellowship center. This was the group’s first meeting since October. Everyone wore masks and followed CDC guidelines. Joan Herr called the meeting to order and offered prayer.

The Okarche High School Speech Team will present its production of “Kindertransport” on Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m. in the OHS Black Box Theatre. The one-act drama will be Okarche’s entry in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association’s one-act play contest.

Okarche High School March Students of the Month are Brenna Crider and Hayley Coffey. Okarche’s March Lion and Lioness are Osbaldo Barcenas and Hayley Coffey.

The Underwood Oklahoma Home and Community Education Association of Canadian County met recently at a local restaurant. Natalia Valenzuela called the meeting to order, with Bernita Davis reading minutes of the last meeting. Ann Ricketts was elected to serve as the new treasurer.

Celebration of Life memorial services for Ronald Neal Stidham will be held at 2 p.m. June 5, 2021, at Lehman Funeral Home in Wellston. Ron passed away April 22, 2021, at the age of 66. He was born Sept. 30, 1954, in Midwest City to Kenneth and Bessie (Brown) Stidham.
