Loretta Kaupke, formerly of Braman, Okla., passed from this life on Dec. 5, 2020, in El Reno at the age of 97 years. Loretta Mae Provolt was born in Ames, Okla., on May 6, 1923, to Millard and Velva (Hedges) Provolt.

The family moved to a farm southwest of Drummond in 1929 where she attended school for eight years at Del Norte Country School.

She attended high school in Drummond her freshman, junior and senior years, while attending Enid High her sophomore year. After graduation, she worked for her Uncle Harold Hedges while living with her grandmother, Lottie Hedges.

Brandi Michelle Miller

Body

A celebration of life for Brandi Michelle Miller of El Reno will be scheduled when gathering is safe.

Brandi was born Dec. 13, 1975, to Carol Steinbruck Miller and Johnny Miller, and departed this life on Nov. 5, 2020.

Brandi graduated from El Reno High School and graduated in 2002 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a bachelor’s of science in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, and was a member of The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Graveside services for Mary Ellen Rednose Maul will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingfisher Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mary died Dec. 8, 2020, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Aug. 17, 1956, in Okarche. She lived in El Reno most of her life and taught at the Concho Head Start Program. 

She also was a nutrition educationist at Langston University.

Indians scoop up 5A-1 honors

El Reno High School’s football team dominated voting last week for the 2020 District 5A-1 All-District Team, picking up nine honors including four superlative awards.

“When you go undefeated in the district, the guys should be awarded for making that happen. The kids that we had named deserved the honors for all their hard work and what they have done. Many of those kids have played on varsity for three or four years,” said El Reno head coach Chuck Atchison.

Calumet girls pull out OT win; COVID-19 snags games

After hitting just 59 percent from the charity stripe during regulation play, Calumet High School’s girls basketball team pulled out a nail-biter over Okeene in overtime by hitting 83 percent of its free throws.

Kyle Axton’s team went 5-of-6 from the line in the extra period to open the 2020 Canton Tourney with a 46-65 win over the Whippets. Calumet, ranked No.13 in the latest Class A poll, improved to 4-1 on the season.

The city of El Reno will consider entering into a deal with a local charitable organization to help save the historic municipal swimming pool bathhouse at Legion Park. Mayor Matt White made the announcement during Thursday’s El Reno Live program.

ODOT to review Banner Road ideas from public input

Dozens of responses were received during a virtual public hearing related to controlling traffic at the intersection of Banner Road and State Highway 66. Lisa Shearer-Salim, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, said 79 comments were received by the deadline for public input on the project.

ODOT is considering three options to improve safety at the intersection, which was the site of a crash in November of 2019 that claimed the life of Yukon businessman Ray Davis.
