Eight scorers were enough for El Reno High School’s boys basketball team to stay in the win column last week as the Indians got back to even ground in the Suburban Conference title chase.
El Reno’s 60-53 win over the Bears lifted the Indians, ranked No.13 in Class 5A, to 11-10 on the season. Kale Simon’s team has won two straight Suburban Conference outings to move to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in games counting toward the championship.
Down one of its offensive weapons, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team got points from six different players in the first period to help spark a wire-to-wire win over Noble.
El Reno’s 59-30 victory lifted the Class 5A’s eighth-ranked Indians to 12-9 on the season and 6-4 against Suburban Conference teams. EHS is 4-2 in games counting toward the league title.
The Indians scored the first six points on baskets by Kenzie Holsted, Arianna Long and Kayla Jones. Paige Primeaux then added a basket to go up 8-4.
City Planner Dustin Downey will be the featured speaker at Thursday’s El Reno Now breakfast.
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Center, 2707 Faith Ave., just off SW 27th Street.
El Reno Now is a monthly event hosted by Mayor Matt White and School Superintendent Craig McVay. Breakfast will be available for $10, with proceeds this month going to El Reno Mobile Meals.
Funeral services for the Canadian County sheriff's deputy killed Friday in what was described as a “horrific” crash on the Northwest Expressway will be Wednesday afternoon in Edmond.
Lt. Shirley Lanning, 58, died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash on Northwest Expressway just west of the Kilpatrick Turnpike between Sara Road and Morgan Road.
Maj. Gary Knight, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said dispatchers received the first call about the incident at about 9:22 a.m.
Funeral services for Lillian Ferne Young Burris of El Reno will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment in the El Reno Cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home.
Ferne passed away Wednesday, Feb 12, 2020, at her home. She died peacefully with a Loving Care Health/Hospice team at her side.
