Indians split final home bids

A big offensive day helped El Reno High School’s baseball team blank Capitol Hill and split the final two home games of the 2024 regular season.

The 13-0 run-rule of the Red Wolves, called in the third inning, came a day after El Reno suffered a 16-2 run-rule loss to Duncan – a team EHS could face in the upcoming regional playoffs.

The split left El Reno with a 17-16 overall record going into Monday’s game against Class 6A’s Edmond Santa Fe.

Calumet returns to state tourney

A much-anticipated rematch between Calumet High School’s baseball team and Fort Cobb-Broxton is a step closer to reality.

The top two teams in Class B cruised through the regional round of the playoffs to punch state tickets.

Calumet, ranked second in the state, won the Region 1 Championship by outscoring its three regional opponents by a 50-3 margin to improve to 21-3 on the spring.

Fort Cobb-Broxton swept its regional games by a 35-1 margin to make state. The Mustangs were the fall state champs after defeating Calumet in the title game.

RCC parts ways with Koehler after decade as Cougars head coach

Redlands Community College will begin the search for a new baseball coach after parting ways with Kyle Koehler last week with less than 10 games left in the regular season.

Redlands made the announcement in a prepared statement which read, “Kyle Koehler is no longer the head coach of the Redlands baseball team. Assistant coach Trent Troxell has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The head coaching position will be posted and advertised soon.”

El Reno thinclads missing parts at Suburban Championships

El Reno High School’s track teams posted several high finishes in the 2024 Suburban Conference Track and Field Championships despite the boys team missing several key runners.

The missing pieces forced the boys to run only freshmen in the relay events. The championships feature both freshman and varsity divisions.

The girls varsity had 10 finishes place 10th or higher, led by Madeline Taylor’s fifth-place effort in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.36 seconds.

Bun Run to help variety of causes

When you walk or jog in the May 4 Wesley UMC Bun Run, not only will you be getting a bit of exercise, you’ll also be helping people who might be struggling in El Reno as well as in other parts of the world.

El Reno’s Wesley United Methodist Church has been coordinating the Burger Day Bun Run for the past decade. This will mark the 11th annual event run by UMC.
