Guthrie loaded the bases in four of the first six innings, twice in two of those frames, resulting in 10 runs as the Bluejays completed a district sweep of El Reno High School’s baseball team.

The Bluejays 10-3 win over El Reno at the Hub Reed Complex came on the heels of a 5-3 win in Guthrie.

The sweep left El Reno with a 16-15 overall record, while keeping the Indians locked in the fourth position in the final District 5A-1 standings with an 8-6 mark.

With three players shooting under 100, El Reno High School secured a spot in the 12-team team field for the 2024 Class 5A State Golf Championships set to begin Monday in Muskogee.

Playing in the Class 5A West Regional at Prairie West in Weatherford, El Reno carded a 390 team score, which was fourth out of 13 teams. The top six teams earn a state pass.

Bishop McGuinness won the regional with a 337, followed by Duncan (357) and Altus (384). Guthrie (398) and Lawton MacArthur (408) grabbed state passes behind the Indians.

Shooting one of its lowest rounds in close to a decade, El Reno High School’s boys golf team won the 2024 Lawton Eisenhower Match Play Shootout by 14 strokes.

Playing the Lawton Country Club Course, El Reno carded a season-low 308 to win over Cache (322). Lawton MacArthur (352) was a distant third.

El Reno junior Jackson Albrecht tied for the individual medalist title with Cache’s Karter Seals, both with a round of 72.

Freshman Jacen Bear had the second lowest round for EHS with a 73, which was third overall.

El Reno High School’s tennis team defeated Del City last week at the Legion Park courts by a 6-1 score.

Canadian County’s three slow-pitch softball teams made an early exit from their respective playoff runs despite two squads reaching the championship games at the district level.

Okarche High School, ranked 14th in Class 2A, ended its season with a 13-5 loss to Seiling, which won the title series 2-1 over the Warriors.

The Wildcats won the first game 4-2 before OHS evened the series with a 5-4 win.

To reach the title series, Okarche defeated Indianola (4-0). The team ended its season with a 16-16 record after the losses to Seiling.

Calumet High School’s baseball team started its journey back to the Class B State Championships with a one-day sweep of two squads to capture the District 1 Championship.

In less than a five-hour period, Calumet defeated Carney twice (15-0/12-0) and split those shutouts with a 15-0 decision over Geary. The Chieftains, who slipped a spot to No.2 in the final regular-season rankings, took a 17-3 overall record into the Region 2 Championships.

The winner of each of Class B’s eight regionals advances to state.

El Reno Chamber of Commerce Director Karen Nance presented a collage of articles from the El Reno Tribune about the El Reno High School Lady Indians state basketball championship team to EHS coaches and Superintendent Matt Goucher.

The team gathered outside Swadley’s Restaurant where they were also honored for their perfect 28-0 season.

Keeping up the pressure on Guthrie for third place, El Reno High School’s baseball team swept two games from U.S Grant last week at the Hub Reed Complex.

El Reno defeated the Generals 21-0 in the first game after scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the second inning with one out.

The Indians backed that up with a 15-1 win in game two, scoring 15 unanswered runs.

Despite a hard-fought battle, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team closed out District 5A-2 play with a 2-0 home loss to Carl Albert.

The loss dropped El Reno to 1-6 in league play as the Indians finished in seventh place. The win boosted Carl Albert into third place in the standings.

The Titans scored in the 36th minute of the first half on a header off a corner kick.

However, the Indians defense and keeper Gage Baeriswyl kept the Titans off the board the remainder of the half.

A loss of the pre-match coin flip ended up costing El Reno High School’s girls soccer team strategically in its battle with Carl Albert for the District 5A-2 title.

Carl Albert won the toss and took the wind, netting two first-half goals.

The Titans would then load the box on defense over the final 40 minutes, with the wind at El Reno’s back, to preserve the 2-0 shutout.
