Despite logging 11 more shots than Choctaw, El Reno High School’s girls soccer team struggled to get the ball past Yellowjackets goalie Kiley Loage in the knockout round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Hosting its first playoff match since 2018, El Reno’s season ended with a 3-1 loss to a physical Choctaw squad.

The Indians were one of three 5A-1 teams to exit the postseason in the stage, with only Carl Albert surviving with a 2-1 win over Santa Fe South.

El Reno, the 5A-1 runner-up, closes the year with a 6-5 record, though the team outshot Choctaw 26-15.

El Reno High School’s boys soccer team missed the playoffs and closed out the season with a 5-1 road loss at Woodward.

The setback dropped El Reno, with losses in its final five matches, to 4-10 on the season.

The Indians lone goal came from Tristan Chandler. Other El Reno shots were made by Uriel Arellano, Alan Gonsalez and Charliee Pena.

Aldo De La Torre was in net for El Reno, logging eight saves.

Being held to four hits, El Reno High School’s baseball team wrapped up the regular season with an 11-3 road loss to Class 6A powerhouse Edmond Santa Fe.

El Reno, which was set to open the Class 5A, Region 3 Championships Thursday in Duncan, slipped to 17-17 on the season, having lost four of its final five regular-season games.

The Timberwolves scored five runs in the first inning before El Reno closed the gap with two runs in the third. Santa Fe added four runs in its half of the third and two more runs in the fifth inning.

El Reno scored a run in the fifth.

Maple School’s track team brought home three state titles from the 2024 Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools Division 3 State Track and Field Championships as well as the runner-up team finish.

The boys took second with 69 team points, aided by two state titles from Ethan Brooks. The eighth-grader ran the 800 meters in 2 minutes and 7.74 seconds to grab the gold. Brooks then won gold in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:44.11.

Both races broke ORES state records for not only Division 3 but all divisions.

Union City High School’s baseball team exited its playoff run recently with a 10-3 setback to 14th-ranked Hydro-Eakly in an elimination game at the 2024 Class A, Region 1 Championships.

The Tigers went 1-2 in the event to close the season with a 19-9 overall mark. Union City lost to the Bobcats (4-2) in the regional opener but staved off elimination with a run-rule of Cheyenne/Reydon (11-1).

A big offensive day helped El Reno High School’s baseball team blank Capitol Hill and split the final two home games of the 2024 regular season.

The 13-0 run-rule of the Red Wolves, called in the third inning, came a day after El Reno suffered a 16-2 run-rule loss to Duncan – a team EHS could face in the upcoming regional playoffs.

The split left El Reno with a 17-16 overall record going into Monday’s game against Class 6A’s Edmond Santa Fe.

A much-anticipated rematch between Calumet High School’s baseball team and Fort Cobb-Broxton is a step closer to reality.

The top two teams in Class B cruised through the regional round of the playoffs to punch state tickets.

Calumet, ranked second in the state, won the Region 1 Championship by outscoring its three regional opponents by a 50-3 margin to improve to 21-3 on the spring.

Fort Cobb-Broxton swept its regional games by a 35-1 margin to make state. The Mustangs were the fall state champs after defeating Calumet in the title game.

Redlands Community College will begin the search for a new baseball coach after parting ways with Kyle Koehler last week with less than 10 games left in the regular season.

Redlands made the announcement in a prepared statement which read, “Kyle Koehler is no longer the head coach of the Redlands baseball team. Assistant coach Trent Troxell has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The head coaching position will be posted and advertised soon.”

El Reno High School’s track teams posted several high finishes in the 2024 Suburban Conference Track and Field Championships despite the boys team missing several key runners.

The missing pieces forced the boys to run only freshmen in the relay events. The championships feature both freshman and varsity divisions.

The girls varsity had 10 finishes place 10th or higher, led by Madeline Taylor’s fifth-place effort in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.36 seconds.

Guthrie loaded the bases in four of the first six innings, twice in two of those frames, resulting in 10 runs as the Bluejays completed a district sweep of El Reno High School’s baseball team.

The Bluejays 10-3 win over El Reno at the Hub Reed Complex came on the heels of a 5-3 win in Guthrie.

The sweep left El Reno with a 16-15 overall record, while keeping the Indians locked in the fourth position in the final District 5A-1 standings with an 8-6 mark.
