Take away two defensive breakdowns and Etta Dale’s seventh-grade football team would have had a total domination of the Guthrie Bluejays on both sides of the football last week.

Instead, the Indians walked away from Memorial Stadium with a 30-12 win and a 4-1 overall record after a recent road loss to Piedmont.

Guthrie scored a touchdown on a 65-yard run on its first offensive play, then added a 13-yard scoring pass on fourth down in the third period. The Bluejays ran less than 25 plays on the night thanks to El Reno’s ball-control ground game.

Indians turn sights on tough MacArthur bid

Sweeping the District 5A-1 field like it did a year ago to win the title will not happen again this season after El Reno High School’s football team dropped a 25-point game to Noble last week.

But there is little time to cry over spilled milk as the Indians are set to host Lawton MacArthur Friday night in their home opener.

“They are loaded and their front seven on defense, we could have a nightmare with them. Both of their lines are a year older and they have got a quarterback that is not a game-changer but is very consistent in taking care of the football.
