To the Editor:

This reporter was skeptical, back in 2018, that Kevin Stitt was serious about pressing for meaningful limits on government. Gov. Stitt has done so in some areas, elevating private sector models while seeking the public good. In other areas, he has capitulated to the forces seeking bigger government.

In the famed 1925 Scopes “monkey” trial in Tennessee, defense attorney Clarence Darrow told the court it was witnessing “as brazen and as bold an attempt to destroy learning as was ever made in the Middle Ages, and the only difference is we have not provided that they shall be burned at the stake.”

For several years in a row, Oklahoma Republican lawmakers have done the bidding of the National Education Association (NEA) and its state affiliate (OEA) by refusing to enact a commonsense, pro-teacher, union reform bill.

My dad told me many years ago to always read the legal notices because that’s where the stories would be found.

Every 10 years, U.S. census workers knock on doors, mail millions of forms, converge on public gatherings and do everything possible to make sure each person who lives in the United States is counted.

Oklahoma’s agriculture producers know that farming and ranching comes with a unique set of challenges and an exorbitant amount of risk. Our farmers and ranchers rise day in and day out to feed our families, clothe our communities and fuel our rural economies.

President Donald Trump urged Congress to advance a federal tax-credit scholarship during his State of the Union address, just one day after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt urged state lawmakers to expand Oklahoma’s version of the same program.
