Canadian County’s new fairgrounds complex won’t cost as much to build as first expected.
The county’s three commissioners, serving as members of the Public Facilities Authority, accepted several bids for construction during a meeting last week.
Contracts were not immediately awarded to give the general contractor, Lingo Construction, an opportunity to review the bids.
The El Reno Public School Foundation recently awarded scholarships to El Reno High School graduates. The scholarships include the Wilbur and Jean Gardner Scholarship, Gaylord and Barbara Reuter Scholarship, Ryan Tinsley Memorial Scholarship and the Hutchison Family Memorial Scholarship.
“Since its inception, our scholarship endowments, through El Reno Public School Foundation, has awarded over $159,000 in scholarships to El Reno High School graduates,” said foundation member Chad Neathery.
Beginning June 1, the city of El Reno will resume sending notices of code violations to people who have allowed their property to fall into disrepair.
During the shelter in place guidelines forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the city sent only “courtesy notices” rather than notices of violations to property owners.
This practice took place March, April and May. The city also provided a weeklong free dump site for the spring cleanup event.
Now that the shelter in place guidelines have been lifted, violations will resume, the city said in a prepared statement.
Friday, June 5 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the June 30 primary election as well as elections for the City of Piedmont Ward 3, City of Piedmont Ward 5, Banner School Board, Riverside School Board, Okarche School Board, Geary School Board and Caddo-Kiowa Tech Center Board Member, said Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold.

The American Legion and VFW are asking for volunteers to help place American flags at the El Reno Cemetery. Volunteers are asked to be at the cemetery this Saturday, May 23, at 8 a.m.
Flags will be placed on the gravesites of men and women who served in the U.S. military. Flags will also be placed along Elm Street, approaching the cemetery.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no service Monday at the cemetery. There will also be no lunch served by the organizations that day.
