Some county workers could see hike in pay

Canadian County officials say nothing is more important than the well-being of their employees. Some of those workers could soon get a raise.

At a recent budget meeting, commissioners and other county officers praised employees for how they have handled the COVID-19 situation.

The county workers were applauded for their patience, the extra work they’ve put in over the summer and their willingness to serve the public in the midst of a pandemic.

Horn is retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The three were showing support for the United States through an effort called Stand Up for America. Birdsong said it’s a non-political movement and Horn said they stand at different corners during the week along Country Club Road.

What can 100 women do when they are all on the same page? We’re about to find out.

A national movement known as Power of 100 has arrived in Canadian County.

Power 100 CC will host its first event the evening of Oct. 12 at the Palace Event Center on Banner Road.

County moves to COVID-19 orange

For the first time since the Oklahoma Department of Health began using its COVID-19 pandemic map, Canadian County is in the orange category. The state map shows that most of Oklahoma is in the orange, or moderate-risk category.

The map was released last week and is based on the number of people diagnosed with coronavirus during the previous seven days.

Alcohol sales on Sunday petition filed

Canadian County Commissioner Marc Hader said he would “respect the sweat equity” put in by people seeking an election related to Sunday alcohol sales through the process of an initiative petition.

Supporters plan to circulate a petition asking Canadian County commissioners to call an election so voters can decide whether to allow Sunday sales of alcohol by the drink at county restaurants and bars, and Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages by retail stores.

Yukon man arrested in connection with death of 10-month-old child

Body

A Yukon man is in the Canadian County Jail in connection with the death of a 10-month-old child.

Joshua Paul Jennings is being held on a first-degree murder complaint after being arrested last week.

According to Oklahoma City police, officers were called to Mercy Minor Emergency Clinic, 520 S. Mustang Road, at 2:48 p.m. Sept. 25, after Paisley Cearley was brought to the clinic.

Authorities said the child had critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

The child died the next morning, officials said.

C&A grant to provide wireless Internet

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes received a $17,000 First Nations Development Institute Grant that will help provide a wireless broadband network Internet access to tribal members.

The grant assists the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes to design and create a wireless broadband network serving western Oklahoma and will allow the tribes to provide 2.5 GHz wireless Internet access to tribal members.

Sidewalk cafe?

Downtown El Reno could see sidewalk dining in the future after a joint meeting of the city council and the Municipal Planning Commission.

The groups gathered outside the Centre Theatre last week to discuss the idea and from the sounds of it, it’s an idea that is moving forward.

Vicki Proctor, chair of the planning commission, along with realtor Kyra Escott and Shana Ford of Main Street have been hanging lights on canopies of downtown businesses as a way to give the area a boost.
