El Reno Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts will be canvassing neighborhoods on Nov. 7, hoping to collect canned and non-perishable food items as part of the annual Scouting for Food campaign.

The food will go to The Lord’s Harvest, a local food bank ministry that has been involved in helping the community for about three decades.

Lori Benge said Scouts will be out in force that Saturday morning, collecting plastic bags that have hopefully been filled with food items by residents.

A ribbon-cutting welcoming T-Mobile to El Reno was held last week. The El Reno Chamber of Commerce hosted the event at the store’s location at 1566 SW 27th St. Kristina Goss serves as the store manager.

More than 100 pieces of jewelry remains locked away inside the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office.

The presumed costume jewelry was stored for safekeeping at the old Canadian County Jail before 2016 after a possible store burglary.

Lt. Jerry Hendrick, who began working to find the owner of the jewelry in the spring of 2016, said the 80 to 100 pieces of inexpensive jewelry has manufacturing tags still attached.

The City of El Reno wants to know what you want when it comes to parks and recreation.

The city is circulating a survey in this issue of the Tribune as well as on the City of El Reno Facebook site. The questions are being asked to help determine a strategic plan to make improvements to the parks system.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran and renowned artist Harvey Pratt will be the keynote speaker at the Ninth Annual Canadian County Veterans Day Parade and Program.

The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 8 in downtown El Reno. The annual tribute to county veterans was created by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce. It attracts participation from veterans and organizations from throughout the county.

A member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes who has been helping in Oklahoma to bring more law enforcement resources to cases of missing indigenous people is applauding federal action on the issue.

“To me, it’s a win for Indian country,” said Larenda Morgan, the government affairs officer for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Morgan made the statement to an Oklahoma City television station.

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West had more than two dozen people attend the Citizen Posse orientation held last week in El Reno.

The two-hour training session was held at the Canadian County Fairgrounds and included a power point presentation and a session of questions and answers.  

There will be one more orientation meeting for those interested in the Citizen Posse, set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Mustang Community Center.

Cheyenne and Arapaho Gov. Reggie Wassana said he tested positive for COVID-19.

Wassana, in a story in the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Tribune, said he had lunch on Oct. 1 with someone who tested positive the following day. Wassana said he chose not to attend the annual Tribal Council meeting in order to quarantine as recommended by health professionals.

Voters will go to the polls for the Nov. 3 General Election, City of El Reno Ward 1 Council Member Election and the City of Oklahoma City Special Election.

Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold said voters should keep the following information and tips in mind as the election approaches.

▶ Early voting will be available at the county election board office from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Early voting is also available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
