Emerging from a 26-minute executive session, the El Reno Public Schools Board of Education voted last week to promote Matt Goucher to the position of superintendent.
“Thank you, we are going to do great things and I appreciate this,” said Goucher during a standing ovation from the board following the vote.
Goucher will take over for the retiring Craig McVay at the end of his current contract, which expires June 30, 2022.
Javier and Rosalia Pecina have been doing business in El Reno for seven years.
The couple, along with more than a dozen employees, operate Pecina’s Mexican Restaurant at 316 S. Choctaw.
To say the Pecinas are thankful to be here and doing business might be an understatement considering what they are preparing to do for the community.
For the second consecutive year, Pecina’s will offer for free, a traditional Thanksgiving meal to anyone who pulls up to their restaurant on Thanksgiving Day.
The VFW Post 382 Auxiliary was the latest recipient of the generosity produced by the Power of 100 Canadian County.
The Auxiliary in El Reno received a donation of $18,000 from the Power of 100 Canadian County in a ceremony held on Veterans Day.
The Power of 100 Canadian County is an organization made up of women in the county who pitch in $100 quarterly and select a county nonprofit as the recipient. The organization has grown to about 180 women. The goal is to have 200 members to allow for two gifts to be made quarterly, each for $10,000.
A six-week investigation led to the arrest of 10 El Reno residents at four different locations, with those taken into custody facing various drug-related complaints.
El Reno police, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security investigators were involved in the operation, according to information provided by Major Kirk Dickerson, El Reno assistant police chief.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas joined in introducing the Truckers Responding At National Shipping Ports Overcoming Retail Turmoil (TRANSPORT) Act, sponsored by Kansas Congressman Tracey Mann.
The legislation would require the Secretary of Transportation to relieve congested ports during either a national state of emergency or when ports are congested by 50 percent or more.

While they graduated in different classes from El Reno High School, there was a shared message among the three men accepting their honor as Distinguished Alumni for the Class of 2021 – keep reaching for your goals but never forget where you come from.
“I’ve had the privilege of traveling a great deal in my life and have met a lot of people. Even though I was only here for 14 out of my 71 years, when people ask me where I’m from, it’s always El Reno,” said Ancel Airington.

Hulbutta is wearing a Native American dress she made herself during her senior year of high school.
She currently works for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes at their Emergency Youth Shelter.
Canadian County residents who pay property taxes will have more time to make payments, said Treasurer Carolyn Leck.
Due to the implementation of “a new chart of accounts released by the State Auditor for state budget-makers,” the 2021 ad valorem statements will be at least three weeks later than the normal weekend of Thanksgiving, Leck said by email.
“Unfortunately, this is affecting several counties statewide,” she said.
Leck said the timetable for residents receiving statements is not settled.
Jaguar Transport Holdings has entered into an agreement with Haskell Lemon Construction to operate the Oklahoma Central Rail Park in El Reno.
The announcement was made last week.
The 200-acre rail park was originally built by Halliburton to offload sand used for fracking in the oil and gas industry.
In a new release, Jaguar said it plans to use existing infrastructure and if necessary, build out to serve more customer needs.
