El Reno Family Dentistry recently visited Rose Witcher Learning Center and Maple School for National Children’s Dental Health Month. Members of the staff spent some time educating the children on proper brushing and flossing techniques, and then passed out goodies to take home to assist with their new skills.

St. Patrick Parade

Union City’s Ron Carel played the part of St. Patrick for the annual St. Patrick Parade in the Oklahoma City Stockyards.

The parade held Saturday was organized by the Oklahoma Irish Heritage Society along with the Stockyards Main Street organization.

County truck driver accused of negligent homicide in fatal crash near Yukon

Body

A Canadian County truck driver has been accused of negligent homicide in connection with a fatal crash northwest of Yukon.

Gregory Albert Patty, 59, was charged with the misdemeanor crime March 14 in Canadian County District Court. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and/or a maximum $1,000 fine.

This case stems from a traffic collision last fall at the intersection of State Highway 3 (N.W. Expressway) and North Cemetery Road in Oklahoma City.

Thompson: McGirt defunding state courts, public safety

The U.S. Supreme Court’s McGirt v. Oklahoma decision, which created jurisdictional chaos in Oklahoma by effectively declaring that most of eastern Oklahoma remains Indian reservations, is indirectly defunding court systems and public-safety entities throughout much of the state, according to the Senate’s top budget official.

“What has happened, especially in eastern Oklahoma in light of the McGirt (decision), is some of our courts are struggling to be funded,” said state Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah.

El Reno Mobile Meals has established an endowment fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to support its mission in perpetuity.

The invested endowment fund is a permanent fund that awards grants back to the organization each year to support Mobile Meals ability to provide hot lunches to those in need.

The fund ensures Mobile Meals will have a permanent source of funding every year.

County burn ban back due to drought

Body

Canadian County commissioners reinstituted a burn ban after recent storms failed to put a dent in dangerous dry conditions across the area.

“According to the drought monitor, we are in the second most severe level,” District 1 Commissioner Marc Hader said.

“As much as we’ve gotten some precipitation here, the vegetation’s dead and I think we’re in a hazardous situation.”

Emergency managers gather at Expo Center for training

Emergency responders across southwest Oklahoma came to Canadian County to train so they can better serve their communities.

The Southwest Oklahoma Emergency Management regional workshop was held at the Canadian County Expo and Event Center, 3001 Jensen Road East. The annual training event was postponed from February due to a winter snowstorm.

FCI escapee caught

Body

A man who escaped in February from El Reno Federal Correctional Institution has been recaptured – and now faces additional charges.

Oklahoma City police officers and special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation apprehended Bryan Scott Miller, 36, in Oklahoma City March 12.

Even before he was found, a federal grand jury charged Miller March 1 with escape from custody, federal prosecutors said.
