Luis Moreno was 7 years old when his mother brought him to El Reno. They came from Mexico. That was in 2001. His father was already living here. The young family was reunited.
Moreno would grow up, graduate from El Reno High School and help care for his four younger siblings, all who were born here.
He met a young woman. They had a baby. Now at 31, his young family is separated.

The Oklahoma City Planning Commission, at its Jan. 15 meeting, voted 7-0 to recommend approval of two planned unit development (PUD) applications rezoning 111.5 acres at 3025 N. Frisco Road and 184 acres at 13921 NW 23rd Street in Oklahoma City Ward 3. The applicant is BLE (Beltline Energy) Landholdings, a renewable energy developer based in Atlanta, Ga.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s public utilities and transportation agencies say they are prepared for dangerously cold temperatures, snow and ice moving into the state.
The brunt of the storm is expected to hit Friday and continue through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Some will see low temperatures in the single digits.
A Canadian County teen has pleaded guilty to an attempted hold-up last month at a local convenience store.
Gary Justin Johnson, 18, entered that plea Jan. 9 to an amended charge of attempted larceny from a person after a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office.
Johnson originally was charged Dec. 19, 2025, in Canadian County District Court with attempted robbery with a weapon stemming from a Dec. 13 incident at 7-Eleven, 1601 S. Mustang Road.

Cold Weather Safety Tips
With severe cold, ice, and snow possible this weekend, the Development Services Department encourages everyone to take a few simple steps to stay warm, safe, and avoid preventable hazards.
ODOT is actively preparing for a winter storm expected to impact the state beginning Friday. Because each storm is different and much of the winter weather in the state can quickly shift between ice, sleet or snow, ODOT proactively monitors weather conditions closely to determine the best plan of action for each storm. Pre-treatment operations are already underway to help improve safety on highways and interstates. Crews will continue to monitor conditions ahead of the expected inclement weather.
