A longtime former mayor and successful businessman, an award-winning broadcast journalist and a renowned architect are this year’s recipients of the El Reno High School Distinguished Alumni Award.

With a pledge to “clean up” El Reno, the city council last week voted to seek condemnation through court action of one property. The council also gave two other owners a bit more time to get their respective properties in order.

A $3.6 million remodeling project is under way at the future site of the Canadian County Health Department. The inside of a 33,000-square-foot-building at 6100 E. Highway 66 is being renovated for the new county health clinic and offices.

A contractor has been hired to replace the parking lot and sidewalks for the Canadian County Assessor’s Office. Canadian County commissioners awarded a $213,197 low bid contract for a parking lot replacement project at North Choctaw and Highway 81.

Frontier Chevrolet General Manager Shane Tuck last week presented Canadian County Sheriff Chris West and a few of his deputies with a check for $5,000 as part of the Chevy First Responder Appreciation program.
