A tradition that stretches back to 1992 will continue at the 2024 Canadian County Free Fair.
Ten days after the 69th annual county fair wrapped up, a contract for next year’s fair carnival was signed, sealed and delivered.
Canadian County commissioners approved an annual agreement with Great Plains Amusements.
The company will present the carnival from Aug. 21-24, 2024, at the Canadian County Expo and Event Center, 3001 Jensen Road East.
In fall 2017, under President Jack Bryant’s leadership, Redlands Community College kicked off its inaugural women’s soccer season thanks to the generous support and partnership from the city of El Reno and El Reno Public Schools.
This month at a gala honoring Bryant on his retirement, the college is launching a fundraising effort to build a soccer field on campus.
A Canadian County landfill and solid waste company is updating its fleet after county commissioners approved a resolution confirming their previous action to allow the Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority (OEMA) to incur debt for the lease purchase of four new vehicles.
“This is a ratification and resolution that will be included into the lease document of the financing that the commissioners have already approved for our indebtedness,” OEMA General Manager David Griesel said.
An Oklahoma company has been selected for an image scanning and enhancement project at the Canadian County Clerk’s Office.
Midwest Printing of Sapulpa submitted the low bid to perform the extensive work.
Their price is $1,798,500 to scan the record books on-site at the Canadian County Administration Building, 201 N. Choctaw. It will take Midwest Printing about one year, according to bid documents.
Canadian County Clerk Sherry Murray recommended county commissioners award the contract to Midwest Printing. Commissioners voted 3-0 to follow her recommendation.
A billion-dollar entertainment district could soon replace the sunflower fields between Max Westheimer Airport and Interstate 35 if the stars align for Team Norman.
A partnership between three civic organizations, the city and county governments and the University of Oklahoma called Team Norman unveiled plans Wednesday for an 8,000-seat arena, a hotel, housing, and a variety of shops, restaurants, bars and offices.

El Reno residents are invited to lace up their sneakers and celebrate the official opening of the Sunset Trail at Lake El Reno by taking part in a family fun run on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Earlier this summer, the community submitted 100 names. From the list, officials narrowed the names down to five and city council members chose the top three options.
Residents then voted on the names in a social media poll.
The final three names were Sunset Trail, Lakeview Trail and Bison Trail. Sunset Trail was voted tops.
New lights are being installed at the Ashbrook Complex ball fields and city officials say the improvements will make a world of difference.
Dill Electric of El Reno is handling the installation of the new “energy efficient LED” system, said City Manager Matt Sandidge.
“They aren’t quite finished yet, they have the west-side ball field lights to replace,” Sandidge said.
City council had earlier approved the $615,000 project, which Sandidge called “a huge upgrade for the complex and big win for El Reno and our Little League sports teams.”
Voters across Canadian Valley Technology Center’s school district will head to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 12 to cast their ballots on a $75 million bond issue package.
If the proposal is approved, CV Tech will construct a public training center at its El Reno campus and make upgrades to its Chickasha campus.
Passage of the $75 million bond election will increase property taxes. The approximate cost will be $2.50 per month ($30 per year) for each $100,000 of assessed property value. Projected payoff of this bond issue is 15 years.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Two years after Oklahoma lawmakers passed bipartisan legislation to address the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people, a state law enforcement entity has not secured federal funding to carry out the new law.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, in following the law, has appointed an agent to tackle these cases. But the agency would be able to do more if it had dedicated funding from the state or federal government, a tribal advocate pointed out.
