Hill turning in mail bag Feb. 28

Body

We should all stop and think about this the next time El Reno and the area gets hit with severe weather: There are people working in the elements while most are riding the storm out inside some sort of building.

One of those people would be Charles Hill. At least until Feb. 28. That will be Hill’s last day as a letter carrier for the El Reno Post Office.

It’s a job he considers a service that has spanned 34 years. In that time, Hill and his fellow letter carriers, along with so many others, have braved the weather because the rest of us depend on them.

City boosts Burger Day funds, gives Temple time

Body

The 38th Annual Burger Day will get a boost from the City of El Reno and the owner of an historic building in the downtown that’s in need of repair will get a few more months to continue showing progress.

City council members voted to boost funding for the Burger Day event from the $10,000 last year to $15,000 for this year’s festival set for May 2.

Casey Trejo, board president of the newly-formed Historic Downtown El Reno Foundation, requested the boost in city support. The foundation replaces the former Main Street program and is a nonprofit entity.
