County lawmen involved in major drug incidents

Body

Canadian County lawmen have been involved in a couple of major drug incidents recently. One resulted in charges being filed, while another apparently allowed a pair of suspected smugglers to slip through the cracks.

On Feb. 22, a traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy resulted in the seizure of 80 pounds of illegal marijuana as well as a 9mm handgun.

Justice Coney Barrett talks SCOTUS during NM visit

Body

United States Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett did not envision a career as a judge. Rather, the former law professor and mother of seven children was “really more thinking about how to balance a career as a lawyer and being kind of a two-career family and having young children in the house as well,” she said Sunday afternoon during an event in Santa Fe, N.M.

Nonetheless, a judge she became, serving on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and then joining the Supreme Court in 2020 after being nominated by President Donald Trump.

Casey Trejo said business is good.

The El Reno realtor has been seeing a steady flow of buyers and sellers for property all around town. They walk into her downtown office regularly.

There’s only one area that is struggling to jump on the El Reno bandwagon … the historic downtown.

Trejo said that’s got to change.

An El Reno native, Trejo, along with a few others stepped in to fill the void created when the El Reno Main Street program went through some major changes. Together they created the Historic Downtown El Reno Foundation.

Why yes, Kate, politics can be enjoyable

Body

Politics isn’t really my jam. It’s not that I’m uninterested, it just seems so complicated. And I really dislike the ugliness that goes on between the parties. Don’t worry, this column isn’t about politics, and it never will be.

This column is about the day I spent at the Oklahoma State Capitol with my great-niece, Kate Menz. I got to attend the Oklahoma Press Association Legislative Summit at the Capitol and thought Kate would enjoy tagging along.
