Bun Run to help variety of causes

When you walk or jog in the May 4 Wesley UMC Bun Run, not only will you be getting a bit of exercise, you’ll also be helping people who might be struggling in El Reno as well as in other parts of the world.

El Reno’s Wesley United Methodist Church has been coordinating the Burger Day Bun Run for the past decade. This will mark the 11th annual event run by UMC.

El Reno High School held its annual prom last week with the theme “The Golden Gala.”

Students arrived to the downtown event and were greeted by cheering family members and a walk down the red carpet.

Public safety update topic over breakfast

A walk through El Reno's history of public safety was presented at last week's El Reno Now gathering.

City Manager Matt Sandidge said it was appropriate that the focus on public safety be presented in the Public Safety Center on Faith Avenue, just off SW 27th Street.

Police Chief Ken Brown and Fire Chief Jason Duff used power point presentations to walk the audience through the history of both departments.

Brown, the city of El Reno’s longest tenured employee, having started with ERPD in 1980, has served as Chief of Police for 16 years.

Dill OTA’s new deputy director

Body

El Reno’s T.J. Dill has been named as deputy director of the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

Dill most recently served as chief engineer since April 2023, overseeing engineering, construction, maintenance, right-of-way and utilities along Oklahoma turnpikes.

In his new role, he will continue those responsibilities as well as adding new ones in the areas of human resources and customer service.

Five found dead in county home

Body

A Canadian County man shot his wife and three of their children to death before killing himself inside their home between Mustang and Yukon.

Oklahoma City police responded about 9:35 a.m. Monday to 2804 Mirage Street near S.W. 29th and Czech Hall Road after a 911 caller said five people were dead inside.

Responding officers entered the home, where they indeed found five people shot to death. The house is in Oklahoma City limits four miles south of Yukon inside the Mustang school district.

Public invited to ICAN’s Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

The public is invited to celebrate Cinco De Mayo and help Canadian County residents who are victimized by domestic violence at ICAN’s annual Cinco De Mayo Celebration Fiesta.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. May 3 at the Education Building at the old fairgrounds at the corner of Foreman and North Country Club Road.

Matt Whetzel, executive director of the Intervention and Crisis Advocacy Network (ICAN), said the evening will be filled with food, music and fun for the entire family.

The Oklahoma Onion Burger Trail features 22 restaurants that offer delicious, authentic Oklahoma onion burgers.
