Body

DUNCAN – El Reno High School’s softball team will have to take the long road back through the consolation bracket to make the state tournament after dropping a 2-1 game to host Duncan in the Class 5A Region 2 Championships.

El Reno went 1-1 on the first day of the regional, defeating Ardmore 13-5 in the first round before losing to the Demons on the championships side.

“Winning a game will solve a lot of our problems,” said Atchison.

Take away two defensive breakdowns and Etta Dale’s seventh-grade football team would have had a total domination of the Guthrie Bluejays on both sides of the football last week.

Instead, the Indians walked away from Memorial Stadium with a 30-12 win and a 4-1 overall record after a recent road loss to Piedmont.

Guthrie scored a touchdown on a 65-yard run on its first offensive play, then added a 13-yard scoring pass on fourth down in the third period. The Bluejays ran less than 25 plays on the night thanks to El Reno’s ball-control ground game.
