Ryah Hardy hit a walk-off double as El Reno High School’s softball team said goodbye to its four seniors with a 10-9 come-from-behind win over the Oklahoma City Broncos.

The game was the lone home outing for El Reno (15-12) in September as the Indians will wrap up the month with road games against Enid and Edmond North.

Head coach Jason Little said El Reno is trying to work out the officiating details to pick up a home tuneup game to end the regular season against Duncan on Monday, Oct. 2.

The Indians split road matches last week, snapping a nine-match losing streak by beating Del City 3-1.

EHS then fell to Cache by a 3-0 margin.

Calumet High School’s baseball team, ranked second in the state, walked into the regional round of the Class B playoffs with a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Amber-Pocasset.

The Chieftains, winners of 12 straight games, trailed Ampo 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh before getting an RBI-single from Hunter Arnold.

Calumet would load the bases before drawing three straight walks from Brendon Voss, Kingston Arnold and Carson Cooper – the latter being the game-winning pass.

Union City High School’s baseball team had its fall campaign come to an end with a 9-1 loss to Sterling in the title round of the Class A, District 17 Championships.

The Tigers opened the playoffs with a 4-3 loss to Santa Fe South, before rebounding to defeat Ninnekah (13-5) and eliminate the St. Bernards with a 13-5 victory. That win pushed Union City into the championship round needing to beat the 12th-ranked Tigers twice.

The loss, however, left Ludy Griggs’ team with a 16-10 record for the season.

Both Union City and Calumet High School’s fast-pitch softball teams faced uphill battles in the district rounds of their respective postseason bids – which netted only one win.

Union City ended its season with a 4-16 record after dropping back-to-back games to 12th-ranked Binger-Oney in the Class A, District 10 Championships.

The Tigers were shut out 13-0 and 12-0, gaining only five hits over the two-game spread. Kamryn Cook and Skylar Morgan logged two hits each, followed by Clara Pregler with one hit.

Redlands Community College women’s soccer team allowed a trio of goals within a 10-minute period of the second half as Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College rallied for a 3-1 win over the Cougars.

The loss was the fourth in a row for Redlands, which slipped to 1-8 overall.

The Cougars dropped to 1-7 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings, which is eighth.

Redlands took a 1-0 lead into the half after getting a goal from Avery Turner off an assist from Payton Brickey. However, the Cougars did not score over the final 60 minutes of the match.

Elgin did not dominate El Reno High School’s football team like a 54-21 final score might indicate.

In fact, only 40 yards separated the two schools in total offensive output.

So what was the biggest factor in the Owls 33-point win over El Reno in the District 5A-1 opener for both schools?

Bad luck on the part of the Indians.

More specifically, bad luck on four separate instances which played a direct factor in points being put on the scoreboard for both teams.

El Reno High School’s football team will play back-to-back road games in District 5A-1 play beginning with a road trip to Noble Friday night.

The Bears (1-3) are fourth in the district following a 28-27 overtime win over Ardmore. El Reno is tied with the Tigers, Altus and Duncan for fifth, but by tiebreaker points, stands in sixth place.

El Reno leads Noble 16-7 in the all-time series as the teams have met yearly since 2018, with the Indians holding a 3-2 lead in those five games.

Senior Raley Hartley belted out three extra base hits as El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team closed out a 14-game road slate with an 8-5 win over Clinton.

El Reno went 6-8 over the road trip, which started Aug. 29, following a 10-3 loss to Carl Albert the day before to close out District 5A-2 action.

The Indians finished third in the standings with a 7-5 record behind the Titans and Piedmont.

The Indians won four of the final five games of the road slate, three of those wins coming in district play to make the jump from fifth to third.
