El Reno softball loses outings to rain, team looks to build off first three games
It's no big secret that getting quality at bats will help any team's overall offensive performance, but the struggle for El Reno High School's softball team has been getting onto the field to get those swings.
After having one game cut short in their own El Reno Invitational by lightning, then having day two rained out, the Indians road game at Noble was washed out by Mother Nature.
With three straight games lost to rain, El Reno was slated to host Piedmont on Thursday with a 1-2 overall record. That game could also be in jeopardy as forecasts call for afternoon thunderstorms.
Piedmont is 3-0 in District 5A-2 and 7-1 overall, while El Reno is 1-0 in district play.
In their three games this season, the Indians are carrying a .333 team batting average after logging 17 hits in 51 at bats and 66 overall plate appearances. Among those hits have been two doubles, three triples and two home runs.
The team has drawn 10 walks but has struck out 17 times for an average of close to six per contest.
Chenoa White leads the team in hits with four, having hit for the cycle, producing a .571 batting average with three runs and five runs batted in. Iliana Ashford (.500) is close behind with a double, a triple and three hits leading to five runs and four RBIs.
Bailey Brothers (.429) has a home run and three hits total with five ribbies and five runs scored. Kira Taber, Madie Moss and Ryah and Reese Hardy have posted a hit each.
El Reno's defense has been solid with a .975 fielding percentage, logging 39 put-outs and one error in 40 chances. Brothers, from behind the plate, leads the team in put-outs with 12. Ashford, White and Raley Hartley have six each and Ryah Hardy has five put-outs.
With two new faces in the circle, El Reno's pitching staff has been friendly to the tune of 15 runs off 18 hits and six walks for a 7.00 earned run average over 13 innings.
Micah Woods has seen the most innings with 10 featuring a line of 11 hits, 11 strikeouts, nine runs and six walks for a 4.90 ERA. Hartley has a line of seven hits, five runs and a walk over 2 2/3 innings, while Kaydence Pawnee has thrown a third of a frame.
