Wrestlers open dual season with lopsided win over Jets

Body

El Reno High School’s wrestling team, ranked 10th in the state in the first Class 5A poll, kicked off the dual season last week with a beat-down of the Western Heights Jets 77-12.

The win also counts in the Suburban Conference standings as EHS was slated to continue that part of the schedule with a road trip to No.14 Del City before traveling to Piedmont this Tuesday to take on the third-ranked Wildcats.

Tyrone Lewis’ team will wrestle the first of four home duals on Thursday against U.S. Grant.

Rebuilding plan

Body

It’s a word coaches hate to use before tipping off any season, but for El Reno High School's boys basketball team, “rebuilding” is the best word to describe the Indians heading into the 2019-20 season.

Kale Simon’s team kicked off that campaign Tuesday night against Shawnee with only two starters back from last year’s 20-8 team which fell a point shy of making the Class 5A state title game.

Reaching the new standard

Body

Going into the 2018-2019 season, El Reno High School girls basketball coach Jennifer Douglas felt the expectations for her program had been raised, but she didn't know for sure how high the bar had been set.

El Reno would go on to shock many critics by not only making a third straight trip to the Class 5A state tourney under Douglas, but reaching the title game for the first time in school history.
