El Reno High School’s volleyball team took another step toward the 20-win mark with a 3-0 victory over Class 4A’s 15th-ranked Tuttle last week.
The Indians, ranked fourth in Class 5A, improved to 18-5 on the season.
The match was won at the net as El Reno logged just six ace serves, led by Bailey Denwalt with three, two by Cassie Avendano and one from Avery Blount.
Neither field used by El Reno High School’s softball team brought much luck last week as the Indians dropped home games to both Ardmore and Lawton Eisenhower in District 5A-1 action.
El Reno was defeated 16-13 by Ardmore in a game played at Joe E. Riley Field. The game was moved across town to the Indians former home due to wet field conditions at the Ashbrook North Complex.
The Indians did host the Eagles at their current home, falling 15-1. Eisenhower is currently second place in the district.
El Reno High School’s volleyball team had a rare four-day break after having its Class 5A top-10 battle with Santa Fe South postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the Oklahoma City school.
The Indians, ranked fourth in Class 5, will host the seventh-ranked St. Bernards Sept. 28. El Reno went into Thursday night’s match with Tuttle, the No.14 team in Class 4A, with a 17-5 overall record.
El Reno High School’s football team was off Friday night but will return to action next week with a home game against Noble, looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
While Mother Nature sacked the second round of the Southwestern Christian University Invitation after six holes with rain, the stoppage proved to be the golden lining in the dark clouds for Redlands Community College.
The Cougars were crowned champions due to RCC’s opening-round effort of 8-over-par on the North Course at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City. Taylor Sliauter’s team fired a 296 and was the lone squad under the 300-stroke barrier.
After mustering just three runs and three hits combined in losses to state-ranked Canute and Lookeba-Sickles, Union City High School’s softball team has bounced back with three straight big-hit victories.
The Tigers improved to 11-10 on the season with 25 hits total in wins over Verden (9-0), Calumet (10-0) and Cashion (17-7). Those victories came on the heels of a 13-3 loss to Canute (No.14/A) and an 8-0 shutout at the hands of the Panthers, the No.8 team in Class B.
Calumet High School’s baseball team got its offense shifted into high gear last week, belting out a combined 35 hits en route to a split against Verden and Arapaho-Butler.
The Chieftains are 8-8 on the fall season after logging 21 hits in a 25-1 trouncing of Verden. Calumet then put up 14 hits in a close 8-7 loss to Arapaho-Butler, the No.19 team in Class A.
Kaleb Melvin led the hit parade with seven, including three doubles. He logged five hits in the win over Verden. Jaxon Olive added two doubles and five hits total.

Head coach Chuck Atchison watched from the press box last week as his El Reno High School football team wrapped up the non-district portion of its 2020 schedule.
What he saw was both frustrating but in his own words “fixable” as the Indians head into an open week before kicking off District 5A-1 play.
El Reno dropped to 1-2 on the season with a 41-14 loss to Weatherford. It was the second straight double-digit road loss for the Indians after opening the year with an overtime win over Cache.
El Reno High School’s softball team capped off a tough run through the Bixby Invitational with an 8-7 win over Henryetta on a bases-loaded walk by Chenoa White.
The free pass scored Iliana Ashford from third as the Indians went 2-3 in the tournament.
El Reno’s other win was a 13-1 blitz of Checotah, while the losses were to Class 6A teams Bixby (8-4), Edmond Memorial (13-0) and Tulsa Union (4-3).
El Reno is now 8-12 on the season.
