While a potential record-setting season went belly up over the final week, there was no question El Reno High School’s girls soccer team had some talented players.
Four of those standouts were recently honored with selections to the All-District 5A-1 squads as voted on by member coaches. Caroline Huber was named to the first team, followed by honorable mention picks for Joey Lierle and twins Carlie and Kinley Golden.
With COVID-19 restrictions being eased by both the El Reno Public Schools and the state of Oklahoma, several El Reno High School athletic programs will be holding youth camps this month.
Each camp will have both breakfast and lunch provided to any camper, family member or camp worker under the age of 18 in attendance. Meals are being provided by the ERPS Summer Feeding Program.
Girls Basketball
The late-season push that catapulted El Reno High School’s boys soccer team into the Class 5A playoffs helped land postseason honors for three of its players.
Edgar Garcia, Angel Martinez and Collin Vickers were all voted to the first team on the 2021 District 5A-1 Boys All-District squad.

Eleven players from Canadian County were named to either the All-Star by Class or the elusive All-State team in voting by the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association.
The OBCA has branched out from under the banner of the Oklahoma Coaches Association to host its own All-State weekend and moved to three games instead of the traditional two.
The games have been moved up a month and will be played June 6 in Enid.
WEATHERFORD – Calumet High School’s three players and head coach Tyler Tignor all played a hand in the North squad winning the 2021 Western Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association’s Small School All-Star Game, 3-2.
“Our kids had a hand in all three runs and they all did some things defensively. I’m proud of them and it was good for our program,” said Tignor, who coached the squad along with Vici’s Kris Webb.
It’s been close to two years since El Reno High School’s football program held a spring workout and last week’s start of such drills was just what the Indians needed.
“We got a lot of young kids that will need to get reps with the football. The main reason for spring is to get reps with pads on for those kids and get them caught up with a lot of burning and learning.
“The veterans are also getting reps but I’m not as worried as much about them because of the experience level,” said El Reno head coach Chuck Atchison.
El Reno High School graduate Kadin Patterson signed recently to play volleyball at Rose State College in Midwest City.
She is the first player the Raiders program has signed to a scholarship offer according to RSC officials.
Redlands Community College’s baseball team had a ninth-inning rally stopped short as the Cougars season ended with a 9-6 loss to Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa.
The setback came during a play-in game for the final spot in the 2021 NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 Championship. Redlands closes the 2021 season with a 14-39 overall record and a 7-21 mark against Region 2 opponents.
