Union City grabs five spots on All-Southern Plains unit

A second-place finish in league play helped net Union City High School five spots on the 2024 All-Southern Plains Conference fast-pitch softball team – including two superlative awards.

Senior Morgan Brothers was named the Pitcher of the Year, while junior Jaidyn Grandstaff earned the conference’s Most Valuable Player Award. Also named to the team were senior Skylar Morgan and sophomores Kamryn Cook and Mia Gambel.

Wake services for Robert Joseph Lamebull will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 in the Huber-Benson Chapel, with funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 in the chapel. Burial will be at the Lumpmouth Family Cemetery in Geary.

Bob passed away Oct. 15, 2024, at his home in El Reno. He was born May 14, 1957, in El Reno. He graduated from Del City High School in 1975. Bob went to Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology College in Okmulgee and graduated with an associate in science in 1977.

El Reno postseason struggles continue in loss to Collinsville

A string of bad luck in the postseason haunted El Reno High School’s volleyball team yet again this season as the Indians dropped a 3-0 semifinal match to No.12 Collinsville in the 2024 Class 5A, Region 4 Championships.

Played at sixth-ranked Duncan, which went on to win the regional and a state ticket, El Reno slipped to 13-17 for the year with a 25-16/25-16/25-17 loss to Collinsville.

It snapped El Reno’s three-game win streak going into the postseason.

It was the ninth time in the last 10 seasons for El Reno to make a first-round exit, all by 3-0 scores.

Redlands ends skid with tie

Body

While it wasn’t a mark in the win column, Redlands Community College’s soccer team ended a six-match losing streak with a 4-4 tie at home with Connors State College.

The tie moved the Cougars to 1-11-2 on the season and 1-9-1 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings. Redlands remains in the cellar of the standings but moved a half game back of both the Cowboys and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Ashanti Lewis scored all four goals for Redlands off 10 shots. Miya Ingram posted four shots and an assist. Elizabeth Bolden and Nina Vidic added an assist each.
