El Reno High School’s girls basketball team, the defending state champion, moved to within a victory of making its fifth straight trip to the Big Dance with a 46-36 win over Duncan in the Class 5A West Region 2 Championship.

The regional crown was the eighth for El Reno under head coach Jennifer Douglas, seven of those coming inside Jenks Simmons Field House.

The two-game sweep of this year’s field moves EHS to 17-1 under Douglas in this stage of the postseason.

Indians avenge Bombers loss

Revenge is a dish best served – at home.

That's exactly what El Reno High School’s boys basketball team did as the Indians defeated Midwest City 83-72 to capture the Class 5A West Region 1 Championship.

The 11-point win came exactly 370 days after the Bombers defeated El Reno by 10 points in Midwest City to claim the regional title and take an inside track to the state tourney.

El Reno High School’s boys and girls wrestling teams competed last week in the 2025 Oklahoma State High School Wrestling Championships held at the State Fair Arena.

El Reno sent six boys and two girls to the event and returned with three placers — Matthew Snyder (fourth), Remy Whitney (second) and Brooklynn Huggins (third).

The eight wrestlers compiled an overall record of 12-12, with the boys taking 16th place and the girls 11th place.

County basketball teams state bound

For a third year in a row, three Canadian County small school basketball teams are headed back to the Elite Eight of their respective state championships after winning either area or area consolation titles.

Calumet High School’s boys team, ranked No.1 in the state, defeated No.7 Frontier 79-38 to win the Class B, Area I Championship. The Chieftains, now 25-3 on the year, earned their 13th trip to state.
