Sixty-four snaps and it’s go time.

That’s the number of live action plays El Reno High School’s football team took last week in its lone preseason scrimmage against Elk City at Memorial Stadium.

“I was pleased with the kids and felt like they played hard. It’s really a glorified practice but we felt like we were in decent shape and the people out there played hard to play tough. We still have to work out some kinks,” said El Reno head coach Russell Cook.

Bad inning haunts EHS in 5A-2 bid

Body

One bad inning kept El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team out of the win column in its District 5A-2 opener last week against Guthrie.

The Bluejays scored seven runs in the fifth inning en route to an 11-6 victory over El Reno.

The loss dropped the Indians to 2-7 on the season.

El Reno was its own worst enemy in the frame as Guthrie had just three hits but was aided by four errors by the Indians defense and a hit batsman.

In the other six innings, EHS outscored Guthrie 6-4.

The teams combined for 14 errors, eight of those by El Reno.
