Deadline for voter sign-up on Sept. 19

Friday, Sept. 19 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the Oct. 14 El Reno Public Schools, City of Oklahoma City and Hinton Public Schools special elections, Canadian County Election Board Secretary Allen Arnold said.

El Reno voters will consider a $69 million bond issue proposed by El Reno Public Schools. 

Arnold said that persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 17 1/2 years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. You must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Marlene Walker-Payne (Hawkins), a proud member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and a great-great-granddaughter of Chief White Antelope, passed away Sept. 1, 2025, at River Oaks Skilled Nursing and Therapy in El Reno. She was 86, just 17 days shy of her 87th birthday.

Wildcats third period bites El Reno

PIEDMONT – El Reno High School’s football team imploded in the third period of its top 10 battle with Piedmont, allowing four touchdowns in the frame en route to a 34-0 shutout.

The loss dropped El Reno, ranked No.10 in Class 5A in the Associated Press Oklahoma Prep Football Poll, to 1-1 on the season. Piedmont, ranked fifth in Class 6A-II, moved to 2-0.

Piedmont led 7-0 at the half before scoring on three rushing touchdowns in the third period and a 57-yard punt return. The Wildcats offense rolled up 362 rushing yards on El Reno’s defense and four rushing touchdowns.

Indians drop road bid to Carl Albert

Jumping back into league play, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team was held to six hits in a 9-3 road loss to Carl Albert.

The loss dropped El Reno to 3-8 on the season and 0-2 in the District 5A-2 standings for fifth place.

El Reno’s six-hit effort was led by a double from Taylor Acosta. Izzy Birdsong, Maddy Brinkamn, Zoey Pawnee, Kyla Killingsworth and Brailynn Vickery added a single each.

Amalie Kalcevova took the loss from the circle, allowing nine runs off seven hits and two walks. She struck out two batters over six innings.
