Richard Gerald Spurlin

Richard “Dick” Gerald Spurlin passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at the age of 91 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Chickasha to A.D. and Fern Spurlin.

He grew up in El Reno with his two brothers, L.A. and Ron Spurlin. He graduated from El Reno High School and later attended Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma City University. Dick was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in London.

El Reno High School’s wrestling team got an early Christmas present as the Indians closed out the 2020 portion of their schedule by winning the Max Dippel Memorial Tournament.

Hosted in Weatherford, El Reno bested 11 other team to win the title by 13.5 points over Suburban Conference nemesis Carl Albert. The Indians logged 233.5 points to the Titans with 220 points.
