El Reno High School added another state title to its trophy case as the Indians won the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association’s Class 5A State Powerlifting Championship last week at the meet held at Jenks Simmons Field House. El Reno was hosting the event for a third time after it was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event was spread out over both gyms at the field house for safety protocols. See Saturday’s edition for a breakdown of the meet.

El Reno High School’s winter wrestling season came to a close last week as the Indians dropped a narrow 39-27 match to fifth-ranked Coweta in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Class 5A Dual State Championships.

The Indians, ranked sixth in the state, slipped to 8-2 on the year with their second straight trip to dual state.

El Reno won six weights, starting with Niko Gonzalez’s 7-4 victory over Colby Eighinger at 106 pounds. Will Heger (120) pinned Brock Hickman in 1:21, followed by Cole Mitchell’s (132) 3:41 pin of Brian Ballard.

Graveside services for Ruby Bell Hughes of Calumet were held Monday, March 15, 2021, at Red Rock Cemetery with Rev Travis Euton officiating. Services were under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Ruby passed away March 9, 2021, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City with her family by her side. She was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Calumet.
