Surrounded by teammates and coaches, Calumet High School senior Kaleb Melvin, seated, signed a national letter of intent to play baseball next year for Murray State College in Tishomingo. Calumet head coach Tyler Tignor said Melvin is getting a full ride scholarship from the Aggies.
While finding some success in game scores, El Reno High School’s two entries in the Class 5A West Region III Championships fell short of winning the matches needed to make state.
Xiven Wallin, playing No.1 singles, dropped an 0-6/0-6 match to Altus’ Tristan Gregg before being eliminated in a close 4-6/3-6 loss to Lawton MacArthur’s Kinlyn Payne Binder.
Jacob Guerrero played No.2 singles, losing in straight sets to Duncan’s Gavin Curry before exiting with a 1-6/0-6 setback to Mac’s Austin Urbanski.
It was a tough end to the season for two El Reno High School golfers as Dallon Biswell and Bryan Richardson competed in the marathon Class 5A Boys State Golf Championships.
Playing the Meadowbrook Country Club Course in Tulsa, the two placed low in the final individual medalist standings.
The state tourney featured 36 holes the first day, followed by an 18-hole round the next day for a 54-hole total.
