Legion of dirt work

Crews from Anadarko Dozier are digging up the south side of Legion Park in a move designed to create more storage for water during heavy rains.

City Manager Matt Sandidge said the process should be complete in about 45 days and will include new sod being laid.

The city council approved the work as a way to improve drainage through the creek area that feeds into the pond at Legion Park.

A second drainage project will begin soon when Community Development Block Grant money is used to construct a lined drainage canal to the north of the Legion Park pond.

In a few short months, El Reno Regional Airport has gone from having no flight school onsite to now boasting a pair of businesses teaching people how to become certified pilots.

Oklahoma Aeronautics Academy opened its doors earlier this month. Ken Larcher built the business literally with his own hands and with the knowledge acquired from a lifetime of aviation experience.

While teams they have faced during summer league action may have been fine-tuning their lineups for the upcoming 2021-22 basketball season, El Reno High School coach Rodney Haydon has been evaluating a new crop of players.

“It’s a completely new team for us and we have been trying to get as much court time to start evaluating the kids and see who plays well together and see who plays well in what positions,” said Haydon.
