Students come across many teachers throughout their educational journey. However, it takes a special kind of teacher to influence and impact a student’s life, forever leaving a special imprint in their hearts.
Meet Terry Davis.
Davis has been working at Darlington School since 1978, beginning her career there as the school’s very first kindergarten teacher.
Donna Stirman of El Reno grew a watermelon so large she needed help to get it out of her garden.
Son David Stirman and grandson Kyle Stirman came to the rescue and hoisted the 41-pound melon out of the garden.
“I didn’t think that I could lift it out of the garden so I called my son to pick it for me,” said Stirman.
Chances are son and grandson may get to enjoy the fruits of their labor, but Stirman said there’s enough to feed the entire neighborhood.

That EF-3 tornado claimed two lives, injured more than 30 and destroyed a motel.
It also damaged the Frontier Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep dealership so badly it had to be leveled.
Now, a little more than a year later, the longtime El Reno auto dealer is ready to begin again at the same site, the southeast corner of U.S. 81 and SH 66.
While the food, games and entertainment of the midway will not be found, there will be plenty of activity inside the barns as the 2020 Canadian County Free Fair will hold a Junior Livestock “Show and Go.” The event starts Wednesday and wraps up Friday.
The traditional fair had to be scrapped because of COVID-19. But the livestock show will go on.
“When the board voted in mid-July to cancel this year’s fair, it was a disappointing decision to make. We know that people love the fair and like having something different to do.
A 35-year-old man was taken into custody after El Reno police watched a security video and recognized him as the suspect who allegedly broke into a convenience store and made off with a carton of beer.
Assistant Police Chief Ken Dickerson said Elijah Blue Ervin was arrested after police found him near Cooney and South Choctaw. Police had been called about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 24 to the Valero 66 Mart, 1220 S. Rock Island, after an alarm indicated a break-in at the store.
Police are trying to determine if two stabbings at separate locations might be related.
Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of North Macomb shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 17. When they arrived they found an adult male had been stabbed.
Emergency medical care arrived and began treating the man.
While this was taking place, a call came in reporting another stabbing, this one in the 300 block of North Hoff.

On the eve of El Reno Public Schools returning to in-person learning, the district has been forced to close down Lincoln Learning Center due to a teacher testing positive for COVID-19.
The district has quarantined the teacher, who tested positive through a rapid test, as well as nine other employees who were directly exposed. Among those self-quarantined include two school administrators.
On Saturday, El Reno Regional Airport will host its first-ever Fly-In and Community Day.
The celebration of the airport will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature the World War II Warbirds, fly-overs, food trucks, vendors, classic cars and more, said Airport Manager Adam Fox.
The plan is to make the event an annual affair. It will celebrate the plans to build a new $1.3 million terminal at the airport, as well as improvements such as a state-of-the-art fueling station.
Lady Liberty, a World War II combat aircraft, will be on hand for inspection.
Craig McVay always has jitters about the start of a new school year, but the El Reno superintendent said the unknown surrounding COVID-19 has made this August different from any other.
“This is no different from the chaos of any new school year, other than not knowing how things will go. There is always a run up to the first day of school, the difference is caused by an outside source that is out of our hands,” said McVay.
