Voters who plan to cast their votes in the Nov. 3 General Election by absentee ballot should begin receiving them in the mail. Wanda Armold, Canadian County Election Board secretary, said more than 9,500 people had requested absentee mail-in ballots.
Armold said there were 84,578 voters in Canadian County as of Sept. 1, and those numbers have continued to climb.
In the 2016 presidential election, 5,682 people voted by absentee ballot.
While there were no floats due to COVID-19 concerns, El Reno High School held a socially-distanced football homecoming parade last week.
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said his volunteer posse is ready for training.
West said last summer he intended to create a Citizen Posse to help protect the citizens of Canadian County. West said within 24 hours his office received more than 500 online applications, many of whom lived outside of Canadian County.

The second installment of El Reno Live brought more breaking news as Mayor Matt White said another truck stop is coming to I-40 and Radio Road. He said also there are some “major” industrial projects looking to possibly locate at the El Reno Regional Airport.
White, assisted by City Manager Matt Sandidge and other members of the city staff, fielded questions on Facebook Live from El Reno residents.
The program lasted for a bit more than 30 minutes and drew a wide array of questions and comments.
For three straight days last week, El Reno Public Schools sent students and faculty members into quarantine due to cases of the coronavirus.

MaCrae Putnam is stitching together what she believes could be a colorful event for downtown El Reno. The owner of Make it Sew has organized a Quilt Walk for the downtown area. The three-day event is set for Oct. 15-17 and it’s expected to attract quilters from throughout the region.
Putnam has enlisted help from “every business” in the downtown.
The stores have agreed to hang a handmade quilt in their front windows, allowing visitors and locals to walk through the area and examine the creations.
Several shops will also have quilts inside.
The man charged with leaving his young son to die in a pickup on an August day in 2018 will be sentenced for his crime after waiving his right to a jury trial.
Adam Kolar is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 3-year-old son, Ryker.
Assistant District Attorney Eric Epplin said Kolar waived his right to a jury trial. He will enter a plea and be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in Canadian County District Court.
