El Reno Mobile Meals is seeking volunteers with a valid driver’s license to help deliver meals to those in need. Volunteers are primarily needed on Thursday mornings, but there is a need every weekday. In addition to delivery drivers, Mobile Meals needs volunteers in the kitchen to help prepare and serve the daily meals.
Lucky Star Casino became one of the latest victims of a ransomware attack after the Cheyenne and Arapaho operation was hacked by computer pirates last weekend. The casino joins a growing list of businesses, government agencies, public school systems and hospitals that have been affected by ransomware attacks.
In recent months several casinos in Las Vegas, the city of Tulsa and the Menominee Casino Resort in Keshena, Wis., have all been victims of external computer attacks.
A statement released by Lucky Star Casino read:
El Reno City Council tabled a plan to possibly purchase 10 acres because the address of the land was not included in the agenda for the special meeting.
The special meeting was held at noon on Tuesday. Council member Tim Robinson did not attend the meeting.
After about 20 minutes in a closed executive session, council returned and Mayor Matt White made a motion to allow the mayor, city manager and city attorney to seek an appraisal and a first right of refusal on the land. The agenda item did carry the legal description for the property.
Blessing Baskets is operating the Families with Children Summer Food Program as well as planning the sixth annual “Festival of the Trees, Christmas in July.” The dinner and auction fundraiser event will be held July 22 at the Palace Event Center, 2310 N. Banner Road.
“We continue to see there is more need in the community and Blessing Baskets is happy to be able to help. No child should be hungry,” said Blessing Baskets coordinator Donna Dyer.
Dyer said returning to an in-person event after a year off because of COVID is welcome news.
Spirit will be the name of this colorful foal born Sunday, said owner Joseph Knight.
A veteran El Reno police officer, Knight said the horse was sired by Snowcapped Spirit and birthed by Maid by Midnight. Knight said Spirit will be made a cutting horse as it grows older.
The nose knows. Even the slightest hint of a skunk’s presence can send pet owners scrambling to find a way to get rid of the scent.
But it isn’t just the odor that is cause for concern. Skunks are the primary reservoirs of rabies in Oklahoma, followed by bats, said Dr. Barry Whitworth, Oklahoma State University Extension veterinarian.
When it comes to rabies, Whitworth said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

After a lifetime career of farming and ranching in western Canadian County, Frank Austin is now laying the foundation for future generations to find their path through education.
With an initial donation of $200,000 to the Redlands Community College Foundation, Austin has made it possible for the foundation to award up to 10 scholarships each year, and eventually the college will be able to expand its agricultural operation with the donation of nearly 2,000 acres of farmland.
A motorcycle group called “End of Watch: Ride to Remember” will visit cities across the country where a law officer was killed in the line of duty in 2020, and one of the cities will be El Reno.
Canadian County Sheriff’s Lt. Shirley Lanning died in a crash last year. Her unmarked patrol car collided with another vehicle along Northwest Expressway on Friday, Feb. 14, killing her and injuring a Piedmont couple, an Oklahoma City police report states.
Reports said Lanning apparently experienced a possible stroke prior to the collision.
