A wrecking crew made quick work of a former restaurant and service station that had stood on South Country Club, just south of I-40 since the early 1970s.
First built as Hensley’s and later becoming a Denny’s, the restaurant and nearby service station were leveled last week as the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes move forward with plans to one day develop the area.
Redlands Community College is celebrating the graduation of over 200 students on Friday, May 12. More than 40 of the students will graduate with more than one degree or certificate.
“We are proud of these graduates who have demonstrated the dedication and drive that will serve them well in the future,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant.
“Redlands is a special college because of the students who have chosen to get their start on promising careers on our campus.”
El Reno residents are reminded that the Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive will be this Saturday.
Those wishing to help feed the community are asked to put non-perishable food items in bags and have them near their mailbox before 9 a.m. that day.
The donated food will go to The Lord’s Harvest, a local food ministry that helps to serve those in need.

Canadian County will pay for repairs to the heat and air system before remodeling starts at the future site of the Canadian County Health Department.
Commissioners approved an agreement with Trane for the repairs to the large H&A unit that serves the county-owned building at 6100 E. Highway 66.
Trane is the manufacturer of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system installed at the 33,000-square-foot building.
Gov. Kevin Stitt’s recent decision to veto legislation reauthorizing the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA), the state’s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) entity, came as a surprise to many.
But if the Oklahoma government ends direct financial support of PBS, the state will not be alone.
A recent report shows 14 other states do not provide direct funding to PBS. That same report also shows Oklahoma’s current level of funding for PBS is substantially greater than the norm in at least 10 other states on a per-capita basis.

Lex Godfrey brought the team from Rigby, Idaho, to El Reno this past week so the land and soil judging crew could compete in the 70th Annual National Land and Range Judging Contest.
The event moved its headquarters to Canadian County for the first time. For years, the contest headquarters was set up in Oklahoma City.
Nick Owen, of the National Conservation and Resource Service, has been involved in 26 prior soil and land judging events. He said moving the headquarters to the Canadian County Expo Center on Jensen Road provides better logistics.
