New prep aviation program takes flight at CVTC

A new class has taken flight at Canadian Valley Technology Center.
Aviation Structural Technician is for high school juniors and seniors interested in the aerospace maintenance industry. The program was added this fall to help ease the transition from high school to the school’s adult Aviation Maintenance Program.
Instructor Alan Anderson formerly worked as a tactical aircraft maintenance technician primarily on F-16s and F-15s.
Oklahoma Municipal League joins El Reno lawsuit over Sex Offenders Registration Act

The Oklahoma Municipal League recently filed an Amicus Brief in a case brought against the city of El Reno related to the right of a municipality to enforce the provision of the Sex Offenders Registration Act.
A suit was brought against the city of El Reno for applying a retroactive application of the Sex Offenders Registration Act. Because the offender was sentenced prior to current changes to the Act, they are not required to follow current law. The offender is being allowed to relocate their residence to a location that would be prohibited if they were convicted today.

Demolition of Parkview Hospital gets under way

Demolition crews began tearing down what was originally Parkview Hospital last week.
The structure was built in the 1950s with a federal grant. It began hospital operations in 1954 and served as the main health-care center for El Reno for more than 60 years, operated as a municipal hospital.
In its heyday, Parkview provided lifelong health care, from birth to end of life. A bustling surgical center and more than 50 in-patient beds served El Reno and the surrounding communities.
The hospital was also the hub for ambulance service and home health.
Goucher works way up the educational ladder of success

Matt Goucher has spent his adult life serving El Reno Public Schools. He’s literally worked his way up the ladder. And people have noticed.
That’s why Rocky Carter nominated him to be among the 2022 class of Distinguished EHS Alumni.

Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes Indian Health Center celebrates grand opening

Gathering on a windy and cold morning, the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes celebrated the grand opening of the new Indian Health Center in El Reno.
The new clinic is located on Parkview Drive.
C&A Gov. Reggie Wassana thanked the legislators as the key people who were instrumental in getting the new IHS center built.
“The tribe needed the monies to build this so we could get it staffed through IHS and offer these services.
ERFD, Red Cross installing free smoke alarms

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the American Red Cross and members of the El Reno Fire Department will install smoke alarms for free and provide residents with home fire safety information during a Sound the Alarm event. The event will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as Red Cross volunteers and firefighters canvas local neighborhoods.
Solar salute to America

The entrance to Williamstown is a little brighter after a new solar light was installed as well as a new American flag.
Newton Tarver, president of the HOA, and former HOA president Fred Koebrick worked on the project.
They were assisted last week by the El Reno Fire Department in removing the old light and worn flag.
