Trio earn scholarships from El Reno Foundation

Following are short biographies of El Reno Public Schools Foundation scholarship recipients:

Abby Jeffrey

My name is Abby Jeffrey. I am a proud El Reno graduate from the Class of 2020. I am currently a sophomore studying Elementary Education at Oklahoma State University. During my time here at OSU, I have been fortunate to become a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, the College of Education and Human Sciences Student Ambassador Program, as well as the Education and Human Sciences Emerging Leaders.

My involvement at OSU has given me my closest friends, my favorite memories and countless opportunities. None of this would be possible without the El Reno Public Schools Foundation and their generous investment in my education. It is an honor to be selected as a scholarship recipient.

After graduating, I plan on obtaining my master's degree in Reading and Literacy Education through OSU's online program, while also beginning my career as a teacher. It is my career goal to be an elementary reading specialist. I hope to someday have the same positive impact on my own students as the educators and staff at El Reno Public Schools have had on me.

Mary Ellen Jensen

Mary Ellen Jensen was valedictorian of the 2014 graduating class from El Reno High School. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, while also minoring in Microbiology and General Business. She went on to do research in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology at the OU Children’s Hospital before starting medical school at Oklahoma University College of Medicine in the fall of 2020.

Jensen currently is a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, the Dermatology Interest Group and Students Today Alumni Tomorrow at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center. Her future plans are to give back to her community and continue to contribute and improve the quality of medicine provided in Oklahoma.

Peyton York

I am a proud graduate of El Reno High School and valedictorian of the Class of 2019. I currently am a junior attending Oklahoma City University on an athletic scholarship for the competitive coed cheer team. I study Elementary Education with a minor in English in hopes to become an upper elementary English Language Arts teacher.

I've always had a passion for literature and writing, and I want to share that love with my students to get them excited about learning in my classroom. I'm very excited to pursue my education and get back onto the mat with my amazing team, where we won the 2021 NAIA Cheer Nationals this season.
