The things we have yet to experience this school year ... but we will

Yet…
My whole life that word has been uttered as an excuse for me not getting around to doing something. Darla: “Did you take out the trash?” Me: Not yet…”
Recently, that word was used in a far greater and more positive way. Tim Pounds and I had a conversation about what the possibilities and opportunities might come from very crazy and unsettling times. He suggested flipping the negative connotations of that word and explained the following:
We haven’t figured out how to be great at distance learning … yet. But we will.
The EHS Class of 2021 hasn’t completed their requirements for graduation … yet. But they will.
Pre-K and kindergartners haven’t found their way to their classrooms … yet. But by September they will be able to give visitors a guided tour of the whole school.
First- and second-graders can’t read well … yet. But by the end of the first quarter many will be able to read at an incredible level.
Third-graders haven’t passed the third-grade reading test … yet. But most of them will before the end of the school year.
Roblyer students haven’t mastered class changes and lunch schedules … yet. But they’ll have them down by the first Monday of school.
Etta Dale Junior High students haven’t figured out relationships with staff and faculty … yet. But by the end of the first four weeks of school many will know everything about everyone in the whole school.
We haven’t played a single football, softball or volleyball game, or ran a cross country course … yet. But we will.
We don’t know how to do online instruction in the best, most efficient manner … yet. But give us a little time to master it and we will.
Our high school students haven’t started their Redlands Community College concurrent classes or their classes at Canadian Valley Technology Center … yet. But they will soon.
We don’t have class schedules, bus routes or cafeteria plans completed … yet. But we will in the next couple of days.
We haven’t conquered this virus, our fear of this virus or the logistical nightmare caused by this virus … yet. But we will not give up until we have.
Tim Pounds told me there was a ton of power in that word. I agree.
We aren’t the best school district in the entire state … yet.
But watch us Rise Strong Together.
