Rain strikes out Indians tourney
Mother Nature ended up throwing the final pitch in the 2021 El Reno High School Invitational as heavy overnight rains forced the cancellation of day two of the event – including bracket play.
El Reno's softball team dropped two games in pool play. The Indians lost a close 6-5 game to Shawnee in the opening round, before having the second-round game with Newcastle stopped in the third inning due to lightning.
Kylee Webb's team trailed the Racers 8-2 when play was suspended. El Reno, now 1-2 on the season, was slated to jump back into District 5A-2 play on Tuesday at Noble before hosting Piedmont Thursday night.
For the two games of the tourney, El Reno hit a combined .166 after going 5-of-30 from the plate. The team drew four walks but struck out 13 times.
Kira Taber led the team in runs scored with two. Bailey Brothers, Madie Moss, Ryah Hardy, Julie Holdcraft and Iliana Ashford had one each.
Chenoa White had the team's lone extra base hit with a double, driving in two runs. Taber and Moss had a single each, while Ryah and Reese Hardy had a one-bagger each.
Micah Woods took both losses, throwing a total of 7 1/3 innings. She had a line of nine runs, nine hits, four strikeouts and two walks. Raley Hartley gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk over 2 1/3 innings. Kaydence Pawnee worked a third of an inning.
