Arrest made in hit and run; officer remains critical

Posted in:

El Reno police have made an arrest in connection with the hit and run that sent an officer to an Oklahoma City hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Police Chief Ken Brown said Sgt. Thomas Duran was hit by a vehicle allegedly driven by Logan Reese Primeaux, 25, just before 2 a.m., Friday.

The incident happened on Watts near Wilson St.

Brown said El Reno officers received a “stress call via police radio” reporting that an El Reno officer needed medical care. Responding officers found Sgt. Duran, a 14-year veteran of the agency with critical injuries.

Video recovered from Sgt. Duran’s dash camera identified the vehicle as a 4 door sedan blue in color.

Sgt. Duran was flown to a trauma center in Oklahoma City where he is currently listed in critical condition.

At approximately 10:22 a.m., El Reno police located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that struck Sgt. Duran in the 600 block of S.W. 25th Street, in El Reno.

After interviewing a resident at the house, Primeaux was taken into custody on complaints of failure to stop at an accident resulting in great bodily injury and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

Primeaux is currently being held in the Canadian County jail pending formal criminal charges.
