First Christian to hold Aging Fair

First Christian Church will be hosting a Healthy Aging Fair for all ages on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m.

There will be a mix of booths and workshops for participants to attend on topics such as wills, funeral planning, planned giving, medical documentation and more.

This is open to the public and is being funded by a grant received from the Oklahoma Disciples Foundation.

Experts in these fields will help participants navigate difficult topics that if planned, will help individuals and their families.

Banner School won second place for its student-made float during the Yukon Czech Parade.

STEAM students in kindergarten through eighth grade designed and constructed the float.

Smith selected as Teacher of the Month

Body

Magic 104 and American Fidelity recently presented Riverside teacher Bailey Smith as the first Magic 104 Teacher of the Month.

She received $250 and tickets to a Carrie Underwood concert.

Smith is the middle school ELA teacher and assistant basketball coach. She was nominated by a personal friend who has observed firsthand that she works long hours and puts her whole being into her work as a teacher.

The nomination stated that Smith works just as hard to teach her students life lessons as she does academic lessons.

Carder family endows new scholarship in doctor’s memory

El Reno Public School Foundation is announcing its newest scholarship endowed at Oklahoma City Community Foundation.

Priscilla Carder decided soon after her husband’s death that she wanted to do something permanent in memory of Dr. Kent Carder.

Dr. Carder owned and operated Carder Chiropractic in El Reno for over 60 years. They raised their family here and continue to support the community. Dr. Lacey Carder-Holden continues in this same practice.

New Hope Women’s Union gathers for lunch

New Hope Women’s Missionary Union members and guests met recently at the church for a salad and dessert luncheon, followed by the September business meeting.

Guests present were Rayma Richey, Dean Smith, Marquita Barber, Brenda Kurtz and Virginia Becktol. Members attending were Mary Jones, Carol Johnson, Irene Higgins, Marilyn Schmidt and Peggy White.

Pastor Dick Kurtz gave opening prayer.
