OKLAHOMA CITY - Woodward slipped three goals past Kinley Golden and one by Krystiana Guzman as the Boomers edged out El Reno High School’s girls soccer team 4-3 in a shootout for third place in the 2021 Northwest Classen Invitational.

The Boomers win on penalty kicks gave Woodward the match by a 5-4 score as El Reno slipped to 4-2 on the season. The Indians went 1-2 in the tourney, held at Taft Stadium, beating the host team 3-0 before losing in the semifinals to Edmond Memorial, 5-1.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Tough defense from three straight opponents kept El Reno High School’s boys soccer team off the scoreboard and out of the win column in the 2021 Northwest Classen Invitational.

El Reno dropped matches to the host Knights (3-0), Yukon (2-0) and Woodward (1-0) to slip to 1-6 on the season heading into this week’s District 5A-1 opener with Southeast.

In the setbacks to the Millers and Woodward, El Reno had only seven total shots. Edgar Garcia, Angel Martinez and Cohlton Fertig had two shots each and Christian Diaz added one shot.

Indians defeat state-ranked Fletcher to garner WVI split

Putting up eight runs in the fourth inning, El Reno High School’s baseball team completed the 2021 Washita Valley Invitational with an 8-4 win over Fletcher in bracket play.

The win over Class A’s 11th-ranked Wildcats gave El Reno a 2-2 record for the event. The Indians defeated Lawton 7-6 with two runs in the top of the eighth inning.

The losses were to Bridge Creek (6-5) and Class A’s second-ranked Fort Cobb-Broxton (8-0).

The split of the four-game set left El Reno with a 5-6 season record.

With only one player on the roster having any varsity experience, El Reno High School’s girls golf team has been going through some early-season growing pains.

“I’m proud of the girls for keeping with it and having a good attitude, especially for not having practice for two weeks. We’re going to keep getting better and that is our motto,” said head coach Sarah Brower.

El Reno opened the season at the Weatherford Invitational, placing eighth out of 12 teams with a team score of 472. Shane Castrop and Madi Patswald tied for the team’s low score with duplicate 116s.

Redlands falls twice at home to Mavs

Redlands Community College’s baseball team suffered its first two losses in NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 action last week, dropping home games to Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa.

The 14-11 and 8-3 setbacks dropped the Cougars to 6-14 on the season and last in the league standings at 0-2.

Redlands batted .281 for the twinbill, belting out 18 hits leading to 14 runs.

Redlands Community College’s Ty’reek Johnson shoots a fast-break layup in the Cougars 81-71 loss to Northern Oklahoma College of Enid last week. The setback dropped RCC to 8-12 on the season and 2-12 in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Cougars are now eighth in the league.

Beginning Tuesday, March 30 and running through Friday, April 2, Lucky Star Casino will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for anyone age 18 or older.
