Finnigan family holds reunion

The 120 descendants of Elmo and Agnes Finnigan held their annual reunion recently at Roman Nose State Park.

Attending were their children, Tim and Danella Finnigan, Pat and Cheryl Finnigan, Willie and Kathleen Finnigan Baeriswyl, Peggy Finnigan Wahweah, Terry and Lorie Finnigan and Jimmy and Sheila Finnigan Cowan.

Class of ’56 sets picnic gathering

Members of the El Reno High School Class of 1956 will gather for a picnic set for 10:20 a.m. Aug. 19 at Lake El Reno.

Join the group for a fried onion hamburger and to relive good times.

The class is planning a homecoming gathering Sept. 10 at the Old Central Pavilion across from Lucas Hall. Members are preparing a float to join in the EHS Homecoming Parade.

With four scrimmages and just a three-week preseason window for practices, El Reno High School’s softball team is set to open its 2021 season Tuesday – and the Indians are eager to get started.

“I feel like we are ready. We have all the tools to get the job done and I think the girls feel the same way. They are in the right mindset to begin the season,” said El Reno head coach Kylee Webb.

Title no-hitter

Body

Jordyn Littlebird, a fourth-grader at Darlington School, helped her Oklahoma Athletics 2021 team win the USSSA Midwest National Championship in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Littlebird pitched a no-hitter, striking out the nine batters faced en route to claiming the Most Outstanding Pitcher Award.

Melvin plays for champion Majors

Calumet High School graduate Kaleb Melvin (8) helped the Enid Majors win the 2021 Connie Mack World Series, held recently in Farmington, N.M.

The Majors went undefeated on the season at 36-0 including a 10-2 win over the Dallas-based D-Bat United squad in the title game.

The Majors went 7-0 in New Mexico and was the first team ever from Oklahoma to qualify for the World Series after winning the South Plains Regional.

Elevation above normal, water 86 and clear.
Striped bass hybrids, striped and white bass excellent on live shad in the main lake. Channel catfish good on shad and worms along the spillway.

Foss: Aug. 2.
Elevation 1 1/3 ft. below normal with gates closed, water 90s and clear.
Striped bass hybrids slow on drifting live bait in deep water. Walleye slow on worms. Crappie slow to fair around docks. Catfish fair on trotlines baited with cut bait and stinkbait.

After meeting with the leadership from the Oklahoma State Department of Health and Canadian County Health Department Infectious Disease Specialists and consulting with local medical providers, El Reno Public Schools will begin school Aug. 12, 2021, much like we ended school last May.

The district will follow Centers for Disease Control recommendations in regard to the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus (except in areas of the recommendations which are forbidden due to changes in Oklahoma State Statute).
