Holding Hinton to single-digit scoring for three of the four periods, Calumet High School’s girls basketball team picked up back-to-back wins for the second time this season.

The 56-28 win over the Comets lifted unranked Calumet to 4-4 on the season going into the Canton tourney.

Calumet shot 45 percent from the floor, while holding the Comets to eight made baskets for the night.

The Chieftains held the edge in made two-point (15-5) and 3-point (7-3) baskets, while Hinton led 9-5 in made free throws.

For the first time since 2017, Calumet High School’s boys basketball team has two losses before the holiday break after Hinton stunned the state-ranked Chieftains 73-67.

The loss dropped Calumet, which fell to No.8 in the latest Class A poll, to 6-2 on the season heading into the Canton tourney.

Calumet, with two setbacks before the holidays in both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns, has lost only one game in the months of November and December over the past two seasons.

Redlands Community College women’s basketball team bounced back from its worst loss of the season to defeat Southern Nazarene University’s junior varsity squad 81-63.

The non-conference win lifted the Cougars to 6-4 on the season.

Redlands shot 38 percent in the win, hitting 30-of-79 shots. Mixed into the figure was a 9-of-24 effort from the 3-point arc for 38 percent. The Cougars were 12-of-17 from the free-throw line for 71 percent.

In yet another high-scoring game, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team had its two-game win streak halted recently with an 89-72 loss to Dallas College North Lake.

The Cougars are now 8-6 on the year after the road loss, which came on the heels of an 89-58 victory over Southwestern Christian University in Bethany.

Redlands has now played in nine out of 15 games in which both teams have scored 60 or more points. Five of those outings have been 70 or more points.
